About this Presentation
As a leader you need to display the right behaviours to lead people in the right direction, to influence them. Leaders are often told to be professional, collaborative and organised. Leaders are often trained to improve their skills. Skills do not make you a leader, they make you a manager.
This is where behaviour comes in. A behaviour is defined as “the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others”. Therefore these skills are formed by a set of behaviours exhibited by a person, a leader. Herb Kelleher, the co-founder and CEO of Southwest Airlines as well as a great leader who revolutionised a business, said “you don’t hire for skills, you hire for attitude. You can always teach skills”.
Our ability to influence is determined by the actions we make. In essence, the way we behave. This is why leadership is about behaviours not skills.
The outcome of this talk is to explain: 1. Consequences of poor leadership behaviour 2. One behaviour that helps turn any situation around 3. One behaviour that get the team back on track working collaboratively and focused
